When else is it socially acceptable to throw things at your friends? At a wedding of course!
It all started with pelting uncooked starchy vegetables at newlyweds with the intention to shower the couple with prosperity, fertility and good fortune. Hmmm, nothing like oats and dried corn to get you in the mood. Eventually rice became the all-time favourite starchy carb of choice….obviously.
The 1980’s came with an anti-movement. Confetti came down with a thud and the people were advised not to throw rice at weddings as it was deemed detrimental to the birds who ate it. So sweet… however, this was disproven. BUT, we did spend those dark and gloomy days diversifying with a multitude of different choices. Now we are spoiled for choice and Confetti reigns once more!
There is glitter, an utterly fabulous choice for the sparkly-hearted types but it could be problematic when you consider guests like the poor old Uncle Colin’s of the world, who’d spend the day unimpressed, brushing glitter off their hair and clothing and finding little glitter surprises for days. It’s uber bad for our water-ways too, just sayin’.
Then there is coloured paper. Our art and craft friends prevailed. Again not super environmentally friendly but super cute and way sexier than dried corn.
And for the win… we give you rose petals! An all-time favourite of ours. They are environmentally friendly and they simply decompose back into the earth where they came from. They are easy to get out of your hair and off your clothing and they will not cause a big mess.
Confetti photos rock so, if you should absolutely do it if you're thinking about it.
